Penang, 28th September 2021 – Boon Siew Honda contributed RM100,000 to the Penang Covid-19 Fund to help equip the state Health Department in combatting the pandemic.

The contribution is a response to the recent appeal from the state government for donations to set up extra Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centres, as the state healthcare system is now under enormous pressure with increased number of Category 4 and 5 patients.

Penang state Chief Minister Y.A.B Chow Kon Yeow was present to receive the contribution presented by Mr. Yoshitaka Nakamura, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Boon Siew Honda during a cheque handover ceremony held at Komtar on 28th September. Also present at the ceremony was Y.B Phee Boon Poh, Chairman of State Welfare and Environment Committee, Y.B Dr Norlela Ariffin, Chairman of State Agrotech and Food Security, Rural Development and Health Committee, Y.B Joseph Ng, Air Itam Assemblyman, Dato’ Sri Datuk Wira Tan Hui Jing, Chairman of Boon Siew Honda.

“We are grateful to all frontliners who have been working tirelessly to fight against this pandemic. As a responsible corporate citizen, Boon Siew Honda is playing its part in giving back to the society and joining in this fight. We hope that this contribution can be channelled towards supporting the expansion and upgrade of the state’s healthcare system”, Mr. Nakamura said.

Boon Siew Honda acknowledges the state government’s 3T (testing, tracing, and treating) strategy to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“We understand that the last T: “Treating”, is the most challenging part as its effectiveness is determined based on the healthcare system’s capacity. Now that our hospitals and quarantine centres are at almost full capacity, we must act quickly to help the state cope with the rising cases,” Dato’ Sri Datuk Wira Tan Hui Jing said.

“It is especially times like this where we need to stand together and work for a better community. Boon Siew Honda is dedicated to lending a helping hand in whatever small way we can for a sustainable society,” concluded by Mr. Nakamura at the ceremony.
