Summary
Aug-Sept 2020 – Malaysian roads are one of the deadliest in the world. Within Malaysia, Penang has the 3rd highest cases of commuting casualties involving employees.
Additionally, data shows a rise in road accidents from 42244 cases in 2016 to 45734 in 2018. 80% of these cases involve motorcycles, which is higher than the national percentage of 66%.
The lack of safety on the road not only puts employees at risk, it also poses a risk for businesses and investments, both foreign and domestic.
To address this, Boon Siew Honda and USM collaborated to transform Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP) into a space that cultivates a community of safe road users.
This partnership led to the Commuting Accident Management System (CAMS), which then gave a special presentation to the Penang Chief Minister on the organisation’s goal towards a ‘Zero Accident’ society, particularly within the BKIP community. CAMS has also gone on to forge partnerships with companies to further its ‘Zero Accident’ vision, including Boon Siew Honda Sdn. Bhd., Haemonetics Sdn. Bhd., ClassA Industrial (M) Sdn. Bhd., Vitrox Technology Sdn. Bhd., Broadcom (M) Sdn. Bhd., VAT Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., IKEA Batu Kawan, Penang Automation Cluster Sdn. Bhd., PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd., ScanDisk Storage Malaysian Sdn. Bhd., Boston Scientific Medical Device (M) Sdn. Bhd. And Flex LTD (Flex Systems Penang).
As of August 2020, CAMS has conducted several safety riding training sessions for client companies.
